The mission of Washington Middle School is to maximize every academic potential and develop 21st century citizens within a rigorous and innovative academic culture. This is the WASHINGTON WAY!
Building and Facilities
Washington was built in 1970 with additions constructed in 1990,1991 and 2003. The school features six full science labs, two computer labs, a gymnasium with a stage, a full-sized track, and a football and soccer field. The two-story building is ADA-accessible by elevator and ramps.
Technology instruction and integration is important at Washington Middle School. Our students have access to two wired desktop computer labs with 30 computers in each lab. In addition, the library has an additional 30 wired desktop computers and 30 laptop computers to allow for student use and research. Washington also has several mobile computer carts for teachers to use with students in the classroom. Most classrooms are equipped with projectors to enhance curricular instruction. Incorporating technology into the curriculum is also important to Washington Middle School. Instruction in online databases such as World Book Online, EBSCOhost, and Discovery Education also enhances research opportunities and extends the curriculum.
Additionally, three new Chromebook carts of 30 were added to our technology resources in August of 2016 to support the math curriculum. One cart will be dedicated to each grade-level and provide access for students and staff to a variety of on-line math resources and assessments.
Professional development related to STEM (Science, Technology, Education, & Math) will be a focus for all staff during the 2016-2017 school year. The staff at Washington Middle are learning new ways to be innovative and engaging for today's learners.
